4.Masada and the Dead Sea Day Trip from Jerusalem

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 757 reviews · from $111

Leave Jerusalem by air-conditioned coach for Masada and the Dead Sea. Ride the cable car to Herod’s mountaintop fortress, hear its dramatic story from a local guide such as Dorit, Orion, or Erez, then spend about 90 minutes floating and using mineral mud. Hotel pickup and entrance fees are included.

“Masada was awesome. The man made structure was built in the 1st century and is very impressive. The tour guide was informative, but the museum had a propaganda film that we should have been warned about. It spoke of the Jewish soldiers and civilians who mostly committed suicide instead of surrendering to the Romans. The source is mainly from Josephus, which is not entirely accurate. The tour guide should have mentioned other reliable sources such as modern scholars. The Dead Sea was marvelous. The extremely salty water is a natural phenomenon and allows you to be buoyant in the water. I enjoyed having a mud bath. Very therapeutic.”

“The tour guide was excellent. Ein Gedi was too strenuous for us and should not been done. Older people and overweight people should avoid. The bus driver was drooling over 2 Muslim girls and needed to be more attentive to the other tourists on our bus. He definitely needed to be more professional. The Dead Sea was great. Ein Gedi is a definite skip.”

“All in all a great tour with a reliable tour guide and a good price-performance ratio. Highlights were of course the sunrise at Masada and Ein Gedi with it's animals and the waterfal. Things to mind: - The climb at Masada is really exhausting. The cable car starts at 8am,, so you have to walk. If your old or not that sporty, it is possible, that you are not in time in Masada for the sunrise. - We don't know why everybody's talking about the dead sea and how wonderful it is. You feel like a dead fish in (too) salty, oily, nearly boiling water. If you make the mistake…”
